Trace with the camera

  1. Pick a picture: one of yours, words in a lettering font, or one from Pictures to draw.
  2. Tap Draw with the camera, and hold your iPhone or iPad 20 to 30 cm (8 to 12 inches) above your paper. A glass, a stack of books or a phone stand keeps it still.
  3. Drag to move the picture, pinch to resize it and twist to turn it, until it sits where you want it on the paper.
  4. Tap the lock. Now a hand on the screen can’t move it. Draw along the lines while you watch the screen.

The see-through slider shows more of your paper or more of the picture. Hold the eye to hide the picture and see only your own lines. To unlock, hold the lock pill.

Lightbox

Tap Lightbox, lay a thin sheet of paper on the screen and trace the lines that shine through. The screen goes to full brightness while it’s open. Lock the picture first, so your pencil doesn’t move it.

Step by step

Turn on Step by step to draw the big shapes first and the details last. Use the arrows to go to the next step; the steps you’ve drawn stay faint, to line the next one up.

Learn to draw

Four levels: Trace shows every line, Shapes only the big ones, Grid only a grid to copy square by square, and Freehand nothing at all. A drawing counts when the picture was locked and you drew for at least a minute.
